Bacchus the scarecrow has found the perfect home at Tipsy Canyon Winery.

Bacchus is the well-known Roman God of wine, the great reveler, and the paragon of drunkenness (among other titles).  Bacchus was the deity that bestowed the gifts of inebriation and altered states upon humanity. He also controlled the growth of grapevines and guided viticulturalists through the wine-making process.  Bacchus represents the spontaneous and unrestrained aspects of life. At the pantheon of 12 major gods, Bacchus held the last seat at this prestigious table. Although he wasn’t the most powerful, being the god of celebrations, wine, and ecstasy, he was arguably the most popular.

Someone said it thrice, and now it’s Showtime! Straight from the Netherrealm with Adam in tow, Beetlejuice has decided to haunt Green Dot Subs and Scoops this Halloween season. Some may be wondering if he’s best qualified as our scarecrow- well, he’s a graduate of the Harvard business school, traveled quite extensively, lived through the Black Plague (and had a pretty good time during that.) And he’s seen the EXORCIST ABOUT A HUNDRED AND SIXTY-SEVEN TIMES, AND IT KEEPS GETTING FUNNIER EVERY SINGLE TIME... NOT TO MENTION THE FACT THAT HE’S A DEAD GUY... NOW WHAT DO YOU THINK? Honestly, they’re dead. I don’t think they have much to worry about anymore. But go ahead and vote for him, anyway, make his millennium.

Find Benny at Benson Vineyards, located at the top of the hill on Winesap Ave. Open daily at 11AM, you can find him either, indoor or outdoor wine tasting, dancing to Live Music, Barrel tasting, eating at the Café or playing cornhole. It's all downhill from here. Cheers & Happy Harvest!

Much messed up hair and a little blood here and there

And an anchor and chain from we don’t know where

I’ve also lost Big Sam’s meat cleaver somewhere

Other wise you might have a Halloween nightmare in July. 

Both named in the Spirit of two past boats that have serviced on Lake Chelan. Lady Belle is named after The Belle of Chelan, the first boat commercial passenger vessel on Lake Chelan in 1889. Captain Dexter is named after the Vessel Dexter which serviced in 1897.

The things I’ve seen on these waters… enough to make your teeth clatter. It was a clear calm day when things turned… what I thought was the start of a typical breeze and a few waves, a common occurrence in the Narrows, quickly turned to bracing gales and water boiling up around the boat, rocking so intense, the cargo of apples and cider barrels from my route in Stehekin, pitched overboard. A creature, the size of a barn breached from the water, snatching both the apples and cider to the depths below. 

It’s said, when the wind blows just so during harvest time, despite the rocky canyon not suitable for farming, the distinct smell of apples can be detected when passing through the Narrows. My boat and crew stay at the south end of Lake Chelan from September til November, leaving nothing to chance til harvest season is over. 

Charles is Back.

Last year Charlie took the train to the Manson Chamber Information Center.

This year he boated in on the beautiful shores of Lake Chelan and thanks to some strong winds and directions from lifeguard Viki Downey, he landed in front of the new Information Center at 17 Hale Street.

While fishing for information he was able to catch a couple of “Big Ones” and now he has a boatload of information for anyone with questions about Manson Businesses, events, outdoor activities, and organizations.

Harvest by Day, Haunted by Night. 

Last October DJ Vibe was invited to perform at a Halloween party in the old Mayer Family farm.  The Mayer family farm has long been rumored, as the most haunted farm here in Manson!  Unfortunately, DJ Vibe had no knowledge when he signed up for the gig.  

That night was a full moon and the venue was all decked out in spooky decorations, with orange and red lights flashing everywhere.  His DJ set started at 9pm and ended at the stroke of midnight!  It was one of the most exciting nights of the young DJ’s life!  He was so thrilled to be invited back for the next years Halloween party from the party’s organizer.

By the time he had broke down all of his gear and loaded his truck it was well past 2am and he was the last person at the old Mayer farm.  He heard something by the old barn that sounded like someone yelling for “HELP!”  So he ran over to the barn and turned on his cell phones flashlight to look inside.  He saw something move and then the sound of a cat hissing!  The hairs on the back of his neck stood up, but right then he heard “HELP” again!  It was coming from a cellar door in the middle of the barns floor.  He ran over and looked into the cellar, but didn’t see anyone.  Just then something very large rushed at him and pushed him into the cellar!  The doors slammed above him and that was the last anyone saw of him.

The next day someone came looking for DJ Vibe and found this scarecrow leaned up against his truck.  He was never seen again.

Meet Daltheia!

Every October she shows her fresh face at our beautiful flower garden. She’s been anxiously awaiting this time of year under the earth, and as the blooming season comes to an end and the flowers die, she comes to life through them. We call this Antheia de los Muertos! It is through her time on land that she prolongs the happiness that the flowers bring to our valley. Through Daltheia’s cheery presence, we reminisce on our favorite bouquets and blooms that we enjoyed throughout the year.

We hope you’ll leave an offering for a special bouquet from your past, too, and join in our celebration!

Scarecrow partners Darth Maul and Creepy Clown have teamed together to try and invade Mario world.  The dastardly duo has planned a sneak attack on an unsuspecting Mario, Luigi, Yoshi and the gang.  Will Bowser keep them at bay?  What will become of them?  Stop by Lake Chelan Building Supply at see for yourself!

Greetings. I’m Elizabeth, Queen of the Arts and I want to encourage you to enjoy all the Outdoor Gallery artwork that is on display in our Lake Chelan Valley.  Walk around scenic Manson and you’ll notice sculptures such as The Heritage Tree and Fanfare for the Common Duck.  Picturesque Chelan offers many artistic treasures on display such as the Planet Walk, starting in Riverside Park, and the beautiful sculpture Flower Dancing in the Wind.  Also many people come from far and wide to enjoy the annual Lake Chelan Arts Festival held each June.

For over 37 years I have been striving to champion the visual and performing arts and I am speaking from my heart when I say that I couldn’t have been successful without the steadfast and hard working volunteers of the Lake Chelan Arts Council and all those who love and support the arts in our community.

Whether my reign is long or short, I Elizabeth, Queen of the Arts, vow to continue, with your help, to enrich our beautiful Lake Chelan Valley with music, sculpture, painting, photography, indeed all forms of art, to be enjoyed every day.

Edna Ellen Crowe was constructed in 1956 on a small farm just outside the community of Manson, WA. The man who put her together grew the best corn in the valley and sold his corn to family and friends. The man loved to garden and even though he worked long hours as the janitor at the elementary school, he would come home after work and tend to his garden, taking special care of his corn. Edna was constructed to protect his precious corn, as it was his pride and joy! For many years, usually in late Spring,  the man would take Edna out of his gardening shed, fluff her up, repair any tears in her clothes and then place her in a special area in the garden. She would stay in the garden until late October and then be taken back to the garden shed to rest during the long winter months. Edna took great pride in overseeing the garden and the man often spent hours sitting next to Edna reading poems from books he had checked out from his local community library. Over the years the man and Edna developed a very special bond.Years went by and the kind man passed away.Edna misses the man deeply, but honors his memory by visiting gardens and farms around the valley. She doesn't stay at each one very long, just enough time to get inspiration to write her own poems. The man showed her the beauty of our valley and the beauty of words. Edna will often stop by the Manson Community Library to share her beautifully written poems about our beautiful valley!

Not many people know the TRUE story of how the Tin Man got his heart from the Wizard of Oz…

It seems the Wizard, after many years of being a kind and gentle soul, had taken a turn toward the dark side.  So, when it was the Tin Man’s turn to receive his heart, the Wizard angrily shoved the evil witch’s heart into his chest which placed an evil curse on him.

This curse would cause him to destroy everyone and everything he encountered including his friends from the Land of Oz.  He now wears his trophies proudly as he roams the valley looking for more victims….

So at night be careful and if you see Tin Man steaming, RUN…...

Here lies Freddie Fuels hatched and free ranged in Manson, WA. Freddie ventured to haunted Manson after a friend mentioned he found gas for only $1.29, unfortunately he forgot to mention it was from TacoSmell. Freddie spends his days greeting the wonderful people of Manson at his favorite C-store and hopes you’ll come visit him soon!

Where or where has MA-8 gone? Fritz has been looking for quite some time. Although only a 9-hole course close to Manson made his day. He’s been tromping through high grass, stepping over down trees, and stopping in for some gas and chicken to find out where that little hole went. With no idea what happened, it makes him dress his straw. If you know what happened to MA-8, please let him know! He will be hanging out at the Lake Chelan Brewery. Come join him for a brew and talk golf.

Meet Leisure Suit Larry.

Larry considers himself a bit of a lady's man. A bit of a "dandy" -- a "man about town" you might say. Larry hasn't been winning any popularity contests lately. Using the excuse that October's "ghosting season," it appears he's landed himself in a little hot wire --- or rather WATER.

Tisk tisk, Larry. Tisk tisk.

Liber Pater Peter watches over the fruits of our labor here at Four Lakes Winery. Being the god of viticulture and wine, he also takes it upon himself to keep a close eye on the Lake Chelan Wine Valley.

He decided to move to Manson in the spring of 1998 when he started hearing whispers of a new growing region in the area's future. Liber Pater Peter roamed the valley for a number of years before settling in on our hilltop oasis. The 360 degree views are a great vantage point for a God who takes viticulture and wine so seriously.

Harvest and crush is an especially busy time of year for Liber Pater but he always makes time to take a photo with anyone he meets!

Also called “The Weeping Woman” or “The Wailer,” La Llorona is said to wander around riverside areas in Mexico and the Southwest, grieving over her children. The original story of La Llorona centers around a woman named Maria. Maria marries a rich vaquero, with whom she has two children. 

A few years into their marriage, she finds her husband in bed with another woman, and in a fit of rage, she takes her children down to a nearby river and drowns them. Maria immediately regrets what she’s done and attempts to commit suicide. However, Maria is not allowed into the afterlife without her children. 

Maria is doomed into living in a strange limbo between the world of the dead and the living. She becomes La Lorona, forever wandering the river where she killed her children, searching for their souls.

When someone dares to approach her, she lets out a loud and otherworldly shriek. As if that wasn’t enough, encountering La Llorona places a curse on the witness. Those who see La Llorona have some misfortune befall them shortly afterward.

Miss Snevets is just a wine girl who loves fall and our Miss Stevens Chardonnay. She is elated at the opportunity to sit outside our door and welcome all of our visitors.

Our two man production team hand pressing the final harvest load, working themselves to the bone, and at this point just need a full glass fresh out of the press!

The Girls have returned and brought the family! Annabelle, Lucy and Samantha have staked out their best vantage spot to enjoy their favorite beverages and watch all of the month-long Haunted Manson activities and their kids are lined up on the railing. Their sisters, Samantha and Christine and their Neice are haunting the back corner. They even brought a few of their favorite pets. They think they know a few secrets about “Old Man Manson’s” House back there, but they aren't sharing. They will let you take their pictures, but ask you not to get too handsy, and are out there all day and night keeping watch on their friends and relatives by the photo op on the corner!! They are looking forward to All things Harvest and Haunted!!! 🧡

Worn out from the harvest, Vino Vinney is taking a well earned nap! An old truck and a soft bale of hay make for the perfect place for a quick rest after a long day of picking grapes throughout the Lake Chelan Valley.

Crushing over 160 tons of grapes is hard work and every year Vino Vinney and his fellow production crew members under the direction of their fearless leader, Winemaker Oscar Castillo, crush, ferment, barrel age, and bottle wine here at Lake Chelan Winery. In the Tasting Room, Lilian and his team are happy to give you a tour at 2pm Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.  They will show you all around the winery and production area… or maybe even put you to work!

While we're busy crafting the next vintage of Amos Rome Vineyards wine, we brought in our resident artist, Vino van Gogh, to paint his own masterpieces.

Wave Rider

Wilsonna was one of the very first guests at Wapato Point Cellars back in 2003 when they opened. She loved the wine, especially the Red Delicious, and joined the wine club so she could get all the great perks and benefits including 10% off of her favorite meal at the Winemaker’s Grill, the Chicken Picatta.

While she obviously hasn’t aged quite like fine wine, she has traveled to all the wineries near and far, and Wapato Point Cellars is still her number one pick. October is her favorite month here in the valley and she tends to the late blooming flowers and roses, and sits out front inviting guests to stop in for Happy Hour from 2 to 4pm and to check out the new LATE night happy hour menu. Scootch past her quickly or she will talk your ear off about the amazing club perks that Wapato Point Cellars has… seriously won’t shut up about the 10% off food and wine, huge discounts on cases and retail, and even priority reservations to the Grill!
